My point was, at the end of the day if someone is willing
to write some solution, albeit "officially temporary"
(and we know how temporary some things can be), and the
solution is useful to more than a minority of users,
there's no reason that solution can't be used by those
who need it, or that it couldn't be managed as an external
patch, or incorporated into a "stable, non-development"
release, or .... and the list goes on.

And once again, it's moot until someone shows up with
code anyway.
