The main problem is that ControlPanel looks at _activity_current to
reason about what is running. It's a mistake because in your case
there are two distinct processes running (the manager and the
model/observer), and telling them apart becomes more complicated.
It would probably be just as easy to rewrite the
ControlPanel/ActionCache classes..
