There's slow but ongoing work on the GCC CVS trunk by a few people at
Apple. I have yet to get a GCC bootstrap to even finish on Darwin.
By the `trunk', I mean what will be GCC 3.1 some day. There be be at
least one minor release of GCC 3.0 slated for October before the 3.1
release process even gets started -- at best, 3.1 might show up in the
late part of the 1st quarter of 2002. Anyway, I'm sure an adequate
compiler won't be in the upcoming MacOS X release. I'd suggest
ordering new SuSE Linux PPC CDROMS or get a cheap Windows 2000 machine for
a couple/three hundred bucks.
