As a follow-up...
Apparently the problem has to do with the virtual machine. Under Visual Cafe
I use the JDK VM, while javaswarm uses Kaffe. With jdkswarm (and compiled
with jdkcswarm) I get the same as under Visual Cafe, i.e., a silent program
exit when the class ParameterManager is initialized with
parameterManager=(ParameterManager)
Globals.env.lispAppArchiver.getWithZone$key
(parameterZone,
"parameterManager");

If you edit the `jdkswarm' and `jdkcswarm' scripts, in the second line
there is a long registry path with the string "1.2" in it. Change it
to "1.3" and that script should work..
