Hi, I am a frequent user of emacs, but I only use it under Unix. What I
don't understand is how running it under emacs would make a difference ...

The simple fact is that when under cygwin I give the input

javaswarm StartSimpleBug

gives the proper output, namely output from System.println(...) to indicate
to which point the program runs, and from

jdkswarm StartSimpleBug

I simply get nothing. The same as with jdkswarm happens when I run it under
Visual Cafe. The difference is, is that both jdkswarm and Visual Cafe use
the JDK virtual machine while javaswarm uses the Kaffe VM.

address@hidden/cygdrive/h/swarm/java/SimpleExpertBug] $ javaswarm -version
Kaffe Virtual Machine
Copyright (c) 1996-2000
Transvirtual Technologies, Inc. All rights reserved
Engine: Just-in-time Version: 1.0.5 Java Version: 1.1
address@hidden/cygdrive/h/swarm/java/SimpleExpertBug] $

address@hidden/cygdrive/h/swarm/java/SimpleExpertBug] $ jdkswarm -version
java version "1.3.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode)
address@hidden/cygdrive/h/swarm/java/SimpleExpertBug] $

What would be the reason that the messages are being hidden assuming that
the difference lies just in using the different VM's? Could it be useful to
install emacs on my NT and perform the procedure you recommend? Wouldn't it
still be the question what causes the difference in behavior?

Thanks,
Fred.

Emacs is the editor we distribute on the CD-ROM. There's an
InstallShield package for Windows.

Start this program and type the ESC key and then "x". You'll get a
prompt at the button where you should type "shell". Hit return and
you'll have something that like the Cygwin DOS box shell. Run
jdkswarm there and it will capture the messages that are probably
being hidden.

I'm suggesting the Emacs shell because I know it solves that problem,
not as an alternative to Visual Cafe, even though it happens to be.
