Interesting! I have a 106, and it doesn't burn some of the cheaper
rubbish, like Princo, but hey who cares. I was rather annoyed when I
discovered that it burns the Verbatim DVD-R 4x no problems ever, but not
at all the Verbatim DVD-R 8x. A firmware upgrade would be needed, but of
course Pioneer is more interested in selling me a new burner than
supporting the older ones.

If you get a 10% failure rate on what I would view as reasonably good
quality (Verbatim, TDK), then the burner either isn't adjusting properly
to that particular media, or is defective. I either case you'd need to
treat all burnt disks as suspect, the ones which verified now might not
any more with a few minor scratches.

Thanks for the tip, LG GSA-4163BB are cheap here and seem like the best
choice.
