Hum, UTF-8 strings are returned by gettext as char *, so that's no
problem I think. I can't think of any change that would be needed to the
dialog system.

Right. The only thing that prevented from porting the new input system
is the old window system, that badly relies on the old input system. But
once the new GUI works, I'm all for a backport.
