I have seen this before. Your file is "corrupted" by MS windows
characters! I'm certain of it.  Use emacs to open the file, then M-x
set-buffer-file-coding-system (hit return) undecided unix.  There's a
shortcut, I forget.

For reasons I never figured out, gcc is able to ignore these end of line
characters in h fils, but not m files.

Concerning your other errors about COM.h missing, I don't have anything
to say, since you are using a newer swarm than I.
