No, it's defined on the format, the way that format is written, etc...
Disk-at-once (DAO) is ideal.

Your prior comments seemed to suggest otherwise.

Depends on your point of view.
But yes, in Linux, -RW has been lacking.
Of course, -RAM has worked since Day 1 (1997).
It's far more longevity, although it has been adopted by many portable
devices.

Actually, I could say the same about -RAM, it just works in Linux.
As far as +R v. -R, I think we've been through that before.

But even you admitted that compatibility plagued +R/+RW until just wihin
the last 2 years. Sorry, not good enough for those of thus that have
been doing this for 7+ years (and longer with other WORM/MO).

What are those "older hacks" you keep talking about?
CD-R and DVD-R drives are extremely similar in design. As such, the
"hacks" are little more than ID and other support added to CDRecord2.
+RW (and +R) is very different than CD-R/DVD-R in their approach.

That's because +R is _different_ than -R!
+R is MO, _not_ a single-grove WORM.
We've been through this before!
Now how many times do I have to tell you that because you are partial to
+R/+RW that it will influence your decisions, but it doesn't mean that
those of us who use -R/-RAM are "wrong" either.

That's because +R/+RW use MO mechanisms that are _not_ supported by
linear recording. That's why CDRecord doesn't work for it.
> As I said, if it works, use it. Overall it remains inferior though:
That is just the most arrogant statement I've seen.
Linear recording -R is the most _ideal_ for universal compatibility.
> trouble with +R,
Because +R is _not_ a single-groove WORM! You're blaming CDRecord, a
linear recording program, for not supporting a media that it is _not_
designed for!
Please _wake_up_ to this! Especially when you consider the _physical_
differences between +R and -R, and how that plays into compatibility.

Sigh, you don't seem to understand how the technology even works.
I really won't care less except you're on a mission to label the
CDRecord approach as "inferior" and you are blatantly ignorant of
the physical difference between DVD+R and CD-R/DVD-R.
It's like you're a walking Sony/Philips marketing machine and us
so-called "DVD Consortiums standard religion resp religion standards"
are a bunch of idiots.

Why do several of you +R/+RW supporters insist on this type of attitude?
What good does it do other than show you know _nothing_ of why someone
would use a program that records a single-groove to a single-groove
media, and how that program would _not_ work for a MO-based media?

I don't think you're actually very familiar with how CDRecord works,
and what the "DVDPatches" really are.

Was I even arguing this?
In fact, I get a drive that does _all_*5*_ DVD formats.
I'm not saying you have to, but I'm just saying there is a reason why
some of us have not gone with a +R/+RW preference -- and it's largely
because we were using these drives 7+ years ago.
