git won't make Michael pick up his marbles and go home.
That said, Michael would much prefer subversion to renewing his war with git.

Whether or not we change to git, I would recommend against blind
substitution of the current repository with Thomas' repository.
I suppose that said substitution would fit the policy of having
all developer commit their own changes without discussion,
but my recollection is that at least some of the changes affected the API.
At the time, I was too distracted by my war with git to look closely,
but my recollection is that they were fairly major.
Bug fixes and additional features I have no problem with.
