Yes, but these days the meta data in the git is as important as the tar
ball.  Critical for distributed team coding/QA, git-blame, git-bisect,
branching etc.

I know someone that just tried to pull from the old BK repo, and the new
BK client will not talk to BK code on the old server.

7 months?  I'd yell at anyone that tried to release a tar ball before
getting the repository in top shape.  Last I heard Harlan is still in
Medford.  To be fair, at the beginning of the year moved from BK, to
git, or at least tried to, but this is getting bad
