Just to check, this is an internal problem in GoGui and not a bug in
GNU Go, right?

Yes, it was not in perfect shape. Due to seriously bad network I had
to improvise to get it together at all.

With or without CVS doesn't matter. In the top directory, do

patch -p0 < patch_file

This should work unless
a) There is conflicting content in the files being patched.
b) The patch file is corrupted.
