Bonjour a tous.

Glob2 new gameplay concept
==========================

Sebastian Gerlach

The global objective is to propose more immersive single player (or
multiplayer cooperative) missions that do not necessarily involve
the destruction of an opponents or your own village (and not base).
For example, consider the following possible scenario for such a
mission:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once upon a time, there was a small village of globules located near
a wide endless desert (just to have some kind of limitation on one
side of the map), and they were living a situation of drought. The
vegetation near the village was dwindling, and starvation was a very
real threat. Thus they decided to courageously gather all the
resources they could, and set up a mission to cross the reputedly
impassable mountains to the north to set up a new village on the
other side.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This short mission description would require the player to gather the
available resources, and send one or more caravans to the other side,
eventually disposing of some rebels on the way (although this might
not be necessary if he chooses a suitably weird route).
A possible followup for this mission would be for example to resurrect
the village where the player started (maybe because some important
building was located there) by building irrigation and establishing a
line of supply.
The realisation of this kind of scenario would require the following
features to be added to glob2:
- Better support for multiple terrain types (e.g. the mountains, maybe
  rivers and some other similar stuff)
- Improved resource management (the possibility to transport resources
  to specific places, irrigation, replanting vegetation, etc.)
- Better control of units, so that nothing gets wasted...

Technical need from actual version
==================================

Stephane Magnenat

- add script to map (Javascript for instance),
  script can check variables and send events.
  Script is local and engine side.
- add waypoint and find a way to include this
  in the actual system. Perhaps by connecting
  path to building or by assigning units to path.
- Settlers 2 can be a good example here.
- add virtual buildings that modify terrain.
  Such buildings are :
  * irrigation (transform sand to grass).
  * ressource cut (destroy ressource).
  * ressource plantation.
- add new terrains to map to make it more immersive.
  For instance : mountains, dunes...
  They can be graphic only goodies.
- graphic needs rework, perhaps the buildings types
  also need it ?

WE need FEEDBACK !!!
===================

About :

- your opinion on gameplay and innovation.
- your opinion on technical issue.
- your interest in this way.

A++

Steph

P.S. Ce mail est en anglais car ca va rester dans les archives de la mailing
list et peut-etre que des gens liront ca plus tard comme reference, donc ce
serait bien que ca se passe en anglais, thx :-)
