The export is something you type in an xterminal before you try to make or run the swarm program. It does not matter what directory you are in when you type that because it exports the setting to your environment, your "shell" which I imagine is BASH>

As I mentioned before, it DOES NOT matter what directory you keep the rpms in, because when you install them into your system, the get dumped into directories under /usr.

Where to issue the command "export SWARMHOME=/usr"? I mean, shall I go to /home/anli/swarm/ (where I put Paul's swarm rpm's) or the directory that the Swarm was installed into? I did this, the same problem still exists.

You must not have SWARMHOME set in the environment

type

export SWARMHOME=/usr

if you installed my rpms

I untared and unziped the jheatbugs-2001-03-28.tar.gz under ftp://ftp.swarm.org/pub/swarm/apps/java/sdg/testing (I think this is what Paul suggested?) and a directory named "jheatbugs-2001-03-28" was created. I went to this directory and found the files with .java extension. After issuing "make" at the prompt, I had the following:
/bin/javacswarm Heatbug.java HeatCell.java, ..., HeatbugBatchSwarm.java.
make:/bin/javacswarm: command not found
make: ***[all] Error 127.
What is wrong? Thanks.
