Hi, perhaps I've lost some emails about this issue.. anyway, I think this issue
is linked to the problem of listing sellers... What should we specify if a
laptop is sold with a free OS by a seller and with a non free OS by a different
seller?

Perhaps we could use these options?

- not-specified
- no
- yes, usually shipped with non free OS installed
- yes, usually shipped with free OS installed

In the case it is usually shipped with non free OS (that can be replaced) we
could add the suggested text:

=============================================================================
This device ships with proprietary software pre-installed. It can be upgraded
to free software, which is why it is listed on h-node.org.
=============================================================================

What do you think?

Antonio

I think the only problem with the existing question is that some devices
might come with a free OS (none do yet), maybe in some variants only
(e.g. YeeLoongs from Freedom Included had gNewSense preinstalled).  Your
question technically allows considering a system that cannot be replaced
free, I believe we shouldn't list this option.

Maybe add a "yes, is preinstalled" option to the existing field?  We
need to clarify when it should be used if there are variants or options
with nonfree systems.

The distro needs specific support for each device, their list should be
authoritative (it lists two devices [0]).  Ask their developers if
h-node would be useful for them and what fields should be added?

There are many existing discussions of non-laptop computers, we might
add them as laptop subtypes; it isn't an appropriate solution for
routers.

(Normal computers running Trisquel are also useful as routers.)
