Ok,
maybe I don't need to switch to Linux after all. Downloading an older TCL/TK
library which you posted did the trick, now the samples work. I get some
errors with drag/drop, but it's of no importance, since I plan to build my
own GUI on top of Swarm...

The situation is all messed up at the moment. None of the windows users
have yet successfully built the new Swarm against the newest cygwin
distro. I think the situation is very bad for Windows users, especially
on Windows XP.
All I know is in the SwarmFaq,

But we know that there is trouble there because the Swarm snapshot 6
uses a different tcl/tk than Cygwin currently uses.
