I've studied the Faq, carried on with the installation procedure, and I got
as far as trying to make tcl/tk work, but it doesn't. Your suggestion would
be to switch to Linux, I presume?

The situation is all messed up at the moment. None of the windows users
have yet successfully built the new Swarm against the newest cygwin
distro. I think the situation is very bad for Windows users, especially
on Windows XP.
All I know is in the SwarmFaq,

But we know that there is trouble there because the Swarm snapshot 6
uses a different tcl/tk than Cygwin currently uses.
