Actually, this isn't _that_ much of a concern; we already distrust
everything anyone gives us (maybe they're using an old buggy version
of monotone, or just obnoxious bastards), which is why it's "pull"
that's so slow...

There is some danger, maybe improbable, maybe not, that they generate
technically valid but actually nonsense revisions, where some badness
crept in that would have gotten caught, which then causes other parts
of the program to behave weirdly and 

Which is not to say that I'm ready to give up on optimization as a
strategy; I haven't even had a chance to re-profile since the last
round of speedups, never mind ready to declare that getting any more
speed out is impossible...
