Additionally, sometimes I think it's far more easily to integrate in the
overall design than the usual symbol.  Yours takes no precious vertical
space, and I don't have to bother with shifting around till it's at the
best place.

I've seen it in Bosworth & Co. scores only, but they seem to use it
exclusively instead of the common shape.
But I also made up the habit of telling the ones I hand my scores out to
that I use a unusual symbol for d'al segno, to avoid irritations.
