Ok, let me check faa_mode() letter if it's there. Maybe what you say is happening (GGA is saying RTX fix and RMC is flipping it back).
Gary, that was it! After looking at source, I saw where newstatus gets updated and sure enough, the RMC has DGPS but the GGA has RTK fix. I just turned off RMC and everything worked as expected.
