Sorry, I just found the setting in "Preferences"... to be true, I had
searched it, but in "Playback properties". I will now try to set
"pulseaudio" as default, since ALSA doesn't seem to work if pulseaudio
is running.

That said, may I suggest that a label saying "the change will be active
only after restarting" be added near to the audio backend choice menu?
