Newbie swarmapps problems.

I've just got swarm installed (from Paul's rpm for Linux 7.0, all 
up2date patches applied) and am trying to compile swarmapps, but get 
this error.

address@hidden:~]$ gcc --version
3.1

I've tinkered /usr/etc/Makefile.appl to not treat warnings as errors 
but this has no effect. Followed Paul's faq for this.

Any suggestions?
