No, I happen to agree with you that a broader user base is a Good Thing.
And the performance concern may be alleviated somewhat as soon as the
networked version of Swarm is completed :-) [As well as by the constant
improvement in CPU capabilities.]

I have one concern, however: don't you dare make Swarm so easy to use that
my employer no longer is in need of my expert knowledge of sundry computer
arcana! I might have to go get a real job ... [grin]

Those interested in NT might take a look at

The company is porting unix to run as a separate sub-system under NT, and
seem to be fairly far along in the process. While the product is currently
based on the Microsoft C/C++ compiler, they are porting gcc for release
'soon'. As for objective-C, they said that "Objective C will not be
supported for the first release of gcc for OpenNT, but will be considered
for a future release." Whatever that means ...
