Cool.

So two questions:
  -- do you now consider this good enough to land on mainline so
     people can start playing with it?
  -- if "yes", then is it good enough that people will always want to
     use it, or should we still provide some sort of "cvs_import
     --no-branch-reconstruction" switch in case someone runs into bugs
     in the new code and just wants to revert to the old behavior?

It would be nice to get this to a point where people could try it out.
