Just FYI, I tried this on our man page.  The output needs some work,
this is just a first try, but take a look here:

I got one warning from doclifter:

     address@hidden:/avrdude- doclifter avrdude.1
     "avrdude.1", line 126: warning: tbl(1) markup found.

Apparently tbl formating is not supported?

Running xsltproc as I mentioned in another e-mail over the resultant
xml file ran clean, no warnings or anything.  Running fop over the
resultant .fo file to produce the .pdf file had lots of warnings about
overflowing areas.
