All,

I attended an Atmel AVR seminar reciently. The Marketing Manager for AVR
product line gave the presentation (his name was Ojay; didn't catch his last
name).

Anyway, they are promoting/recommending 3 toolsets packages:
1. High performance: STK500, ICE50, IAR, avrstudio; $5500US
2. Low-cost: STK500, ICE200/JTAGICE, ICC or CV, avrstudio; $577US or $377US
3. Nearly-free: STK500, avrstudio, GCC $79US

Cheers! Atmel is promoting GCC! (But, brace yourselves for the onslaught of
questions....)
He even went so far to say the quality of the code was pretty good.

BTW:
When asked, he said that the AT86RF401 (AVR w/ OOK RF modem) and the
AT43USB320A (AVR w/ USB HUB+FN) are a different group @ Atmel so he had no info
about them. Obviousely, the FPSLIC (AVR+FPGA) is a different group (it runs @
25MHz)! There will be a STK500 plug-on for that product.
The AVR w/ 100-segment LCD controller (Mega169) was news to me.

Regards,

Glenn.
