If you are new to linux, why not spare yourself some hassle. I hope you
are not building all those packages by hand, because they are included
with the RH distribution and if you install manually, you will surely
break some stuff they system has. If your RedHat system is brand new,
and you have indeed hand-installed tcl/tk and all that other stuff you
list, you should consider erasing and reinstalling Redhat, and after that
do everything possible to avoid being root and typing anything like
"make install". Rather, you ought to learn how to build RPM packages so
that you don't fould up your computer.
Supposing you installed blt, tcl/tk, libpng from the RH disk in RPM
form, then all you need is to install some more RPMS.
I keep new RPMS for Swarm users in my account:
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/Swarm-2.2x_RPMSforRH7.3/
Note you will need hdf5 as well as whatever swarm bits you want. Its in
there. You will also need some gcc3 rpms, and you can get them in here.
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/miscSupportSoftware/gcc-upgrades/3.0.4RH72/
You don't need all the gcc3 packages, but you need some, and when you
try to install my RPM of swarm, it will tell you which. for sure you need:
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/miscSupportSoftware/gcc-upgrades/3.0.4RH72/gcc3-3.0.4-2pj.i386.rpm
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/miscSupportSoftware/gcc-upgrades/3.0.4RH72/gcc3-objc-3.0.4-2pj.i386.rpm
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/miscSupportSoftware/gcc-upgrades/3.0.4RH72/libgcc-3.0.4-2pj.i386.rpm
For a totally inexplicable and baffling reason, RH 7.3 omitted gcc3,
even though they had it in RH7.2.
Previously I had swarm built with nonstandard libpng, but now I think
the libpng that RH supplies should make it work.

Hi,
I have downloaded and successfully installed XPM, TCL/TK, BLT, LIBFFI,
LIBPNG and ZLIB all ./configure, make and make install.
But when I go for Swarm-2.1.1.tar.gz untar and then do ./configure its
done fine but when i do make I get two errors in libobj/objc/hash.h
line 233 strcmp or string comparison problem.
Can someone tell me how to make it work. Also can someone tell me which
are the libraries I need and also if there is a compiled version of it
whcih will work.
I am a newbie to Linux so please provide me with an Idiots guide :)
Thanks for your help.
