I would expect that if installed BLT 2.4f, that you'd have 
a shared library installed.  So. are you sure that /usr/lib/libBLT.a
is the one you installed, or something that came with the system?
If the former, I would suggest that you use /usr/local, not /usr 
for an install prefix, since the latter should be controlled by
the system package manager.
