I think that for HEAD, NN <= 4 && IE < 5.5 compat js should be dropped. 

Using the DOM should make life a lot easier for everyone.  A proof of
concept version of what is planned for HEAD is available at
http://wiki.phpgroupware.org/skwashd-junk/magic-form.html  

This will be worked into a set of JSlibs and there will also be a mini
version of the phpGWAPI available in js.  I am well down the
implementation road.  Stay tuned for more.

Mozilla 1.5/1.6 on win has some issues with form elements and DHTML -
beyond our control.
