further to my earlier message today,
i've tested a few possibilities, with an interesting result:
if i start Lynx with the cartoon as startfile (in a local directory),
if refuses with the following messages:
sh: -c: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token `&)'
sh: -c: line 1: `kview /tmp/Q8dVsn/L2125-398TMP.gif &)'
kview /tmp/Q8dVsn/L2125-398TMP.gif &)
lynx: Start file could not be found or is not text/html or text/plain
Exiting...
it will be noticed that the first 2 lines are the same
as those in my earlier message, when Lynx crashed in flight.
here for some reason, it tries to start kview ,
THEN decides the startfile isn't of the correct type, which is odd.
i also tried a simple file with a link to a mutilated jpg/gif file
to test the possibility of defective downloads confusing Lynx:
Lynx refused to follow the link with various sensible explanations,
depending on the nature of the mutilation.
