i suppose the client probably handles that already
im not concerned about how to detect the module; my concern is
the web presentation - consider the scenario where the distro
does not distribute the module, but a user self-compiles and
installs it, then runs h-client and publishes the report - the
report will indicate that foomatic-123 works on that distro - yet
reports from every other user of that distro, indicate that it
does not work (at least not OOTB)
ie: "works on parabola", is again equivalent to "works with
linux-libre at this specific version (if you acquire the module)"
so most parabola users would find "works on parabola" to be
false; while the same trick which worked for that one parabola
user (and tainted the pool), would actually work as well on any
other distro
it seems that the current data model does not capture these
subtleties; but they would be very informative to show
