Uh, lost me.  How did we get onto Ubuntu 18.04 and Python?

gpsd 3.12 is WAY older than Ubuntu 18, and the daemon is in C.

If you don't want to use the example Python clients, then use the
example clients written in other languages.  UNix, and gpsd, are about
choice.

Which then gets back to a bad Glib install.  Still waiting for the
build log to see waht is up with that.
