          Thanks for replying, Let me clear the scenario.I have to monitor 40+ compute nodes(parallel super computer).I have got a monitor station which is going to have a mobile phone . If some critical issues occur , then a monitoring service will send sms to some specified numbers through gnokii.
I am also planning to fire commands on nodes got from recieved sms

I would not go near a cable for connecting a phone to a PC, they tend to be expensive and will be obsolete when you replace the phone.

Gnokii works well with Bluetooth, a USB dongle is cheap and will work with your next phone.

It will also allow you to transfer photos and music between the phone and PC.
