I hate to say it but I don't like it much either. Something that makes
globulation great, IMHO, is that it is completely different from any game out
there. This seems to be implementing an idea that is found in many other
games; I don't think it would complement glob2 well.
For the next major gameplay element to come to glob2, I think that it should
be something completely original. (What it could be, I don't know.)
Something that I think should be worked for, is to have a very capable
scripting system. Perhaps have it so that the script can deform the terrain,
speed up ressource growth, manage custom buildings, etc. That way, an idea
like this could be made to be part of a map, in order to provide a varied
game play. By doing that, anyone can implement a gameplay idea, and have it
be specific to the map he is making. (We would not have to worry about
conflicting ideas as much then!) Also, it would take more of the work off of
the main developers, and shift it to those casual bystanders that might not
have the experience to get deep into the source code. (Like, perhaps,
myself.)
I understand that something like this is being worked on? I am not the best
with high level languages, (I love old 8 bit assembly variants,) but if there
is any way I can help with it, let me know. This is something I would LOVE
to see come about.
In a way, I feel a little bad for taking this view. After all, I have been
spouting out all sorts of crazy ideas, and you [NCT] have been rather
receptive. But here you come up with an idea, and no one seems to like
it. :( Sorry, but I decided to be honest.
All in all, I suppose that you can program whatever you want! But I still
don't like the idea.

I like the level 2 and 3 graphics! (Finally a little support!)
