I did not know about this library.  I had a quick look and my first setup

        (setq url-history-track t
              url-history-file (expand-file-name "url/history" 
user-emacs-directory))

does not seem to be enough as it does not save anything with EWW.  I'm not
sure how to link the two libraries.

Actually, which part of Emacs uses url-history?
