I'm not sure of the answer to that off hand, but while I look into it
perhaps you could give some background to you question. There already is
an implicit \book { } surrounding all the scores (just like if you give
just a single note to LilyPond then it typesets it supplying implicit
voice,staff,score contexts). I just tested this out by going to the
LilyPond view and clicking on the Score Layout Options button (you need
Continuous typesetting turned off for this button to be there) and
choosing Customize Score Layout, then I added \book before the first
score and } after the last and then typeset. The result is identical.

I see you tried adding the \vspace before the markup after the movement,
instead (*) you have to add it before the title: that is click on the
title in the Print View and use the button for vertical space, I got:

\vspace #10 Branle de la Haye (Heckenbranle)

and with that a huge gap opens up.

(*) I think this does nothing because the next bit of markup, the title
doesn't see it in some sense, it is just some space left after what you
wrote, which is then "up for grabs". But I don't know if that is the
right model for what is going on inside LilyPond...
