Hm... tried again, same result.  Tried diff on the test log I sent you and on the new one, and they're the same.

I ran the command to install all the dependencies just in case before this try, but it's all there.  Nothing new to install or update.  So everything is there, but it still seems like some dependencies are inaccessible.

Probably since GNOME also depends on the JPEG library and Ubuntu has
shifted GNOME to snap, it is creating conflicts there this time. Try
installing libjpeg through 'apt' to see how it goes:

sudo apt install libjpeg-dev

Generally, you can install all the dependencies with 'apt' in one
command (as shown in [1]).
