Hi everyone

A while back I submitted a patch that allows you to specify multiple
"signature" declarations per "part" in avrdude.conf. [1]

I was programing an ATmega328 chip and found out that out of the box
avrdude only has a definition for ATmega328P (an identical chip in all
respects concerning avrdude except the signature). Instead of sending a
patch that duplicates the 328P part, except for a different signature, I
added the possibility to specify multiple signatures. I've seen concerns
[2] that avrdude is already too large.

Regarding support for ATmega328, since this is popular chip on some
Arduino boards, the question about avrdude reporting wrong signature
bits is quite common. The usual answer is to just tell avrdude to ignore
the signature, but I believe that is bad practice.

I haven't received any feedback on my patch. I've seen a different, more
general approach proposed by David Ford [3] that adds support for
property inheritance via a "parent" directive. If you would be willing
to accept a patch implementing that, I am prepared to work on it.
