I tried it using a

ucom0: Prolific Technology PL2303 Serial adapter (ATEN/IOGEAR UC232A), rev 
1.10/2.02, addr 3

It doesn't work, using a jumper between MISO and MOSI doesn't even
return the echo.  And as expected, it's *really* slow.
