I can't say how they ever made my life harder.  If I type Foo.C, I
mean Foo.C, otherwise I'd type foo.c.  What's the difficulty?

Just because RSX-11 could not distinguish anything but simple letters,
digits, and the dollar sign because they wanted to squeeze three
characters into 16 bits (radix-50 character set) doesn't look like a
reasonable excuse for sloppy typing (or poor utilities that get into
your way by applying a different capitalization than you, the
programmer) in the 3rd millenium.  Heck, even CP/M could already store
upper and lower case chars in its filesystem, and any filesystem used
these days (including all current versions of FAT and HP^H^HNTFS) can
do as well.
