[Swarm-Support] extension of the swarm/gis project

Hello everybody,

I just started researching for my "PHD"(or more exact for my double diploma
thesis).
During my work, I'd like to focus on a controller which realizes the
communication between GIS (for example ArcGis) and Swarm. Especially I want to
implement a tool which transfers data from/to ArcGis. As I couldn't find much
about this topic in the web, it would be very helpful for me if anyone could 
tell
me something about the state of the art in this field. Is there already a
kind of GIS-library which you can use inside Swarm simulations?
I studied geography and computer science so in my work I'd like to combine
these two subjects. Till now I haven't got a concrete subject and what
concerns an example in the field of human geography I'm very flexible. Does 
anybody
have some ideas in which direction I should research or in which open
projects I could take part in. 
I would appreciate any kind of suggestions. Many thanks for any assistance.
