Thank you Martin!
Tee is available, and it never occured to me to use that. I've been too 
busy fighting with various iterations of "command > logfile 2>&1" to 
consider the solution staring me in the face. 

Something about not seeing the forest for the trees comes to mind. ;)

I'm testing this now.
