Migration is the problem I see - there is a lot code that it not very well
designed
and something I would call chatotical - thats why I think it would be good
to start
from scratch here.
A lot of things in design are problematically to integrate into existing
apps etc.
so it would be good to have a well defined interface to things like
xmlrpc, soap, syncronisation as well as application interoperability.

Also I feel that migration might cost more time that rewriting from scratch

there is really a lot code that need refactoring .....
