Hello,

Thanks to everyone who sent the requested info. Unfortunately i have to
admit that i found no common element between the people having Clicks,
stereo swapping or high speed playback :(

Regarding clicks and stereo swapping, i think these have the same root.
I think that stereo swapping can be caused by some DMA transfer being
missed. Since the data is 16 bit, and they are multiplexed
(interleaved), there must be a loss of a 16bit word to cause loosing
synchronisity.
On the Aureal Vortex card, the DMA engine takes one sample and puts it
into the left pipeline, takes another and puts it into the right
pipeline, and then again the left, right, etc. If one sample gets lost,
the card would put the samples into the wrong pipeline.
Maybe some PCI features as Write Merge/Combining are involved ?

The infamous Chip'n Dale bug... I thought it was gone. Those people
still having fast play problems: "Are you really sure you are using the
latest CVS ALSA driver ????".

Best Regards

Manuel Jander.
