Follow-up Comment #47, bug #39000 (project octave):

In at least some cases, don't we check and cache matrix type info before
calling LAPACK functions so we know whether to use general, symmetric, banded,
etc. variants of the functions?  As part of that, or when computing statistics
for a matrix, we could check for NaN or Inf values and also cache that info.
