The problem with \cut is that it is both a verb and adjective - the thing looks 
"cut", but people might think that cutting is done.
As for start/end, all spanners are started and ended by definition, so this may 
be confusing.

My vote:

1) \broken
2) \detached
3) \cut
4) \alignSpannerToNonMusicalPaperColumn
5) \fake
