If this is all you get you probably just typed 'lilypond' without
arguments. Lilypond is *not* a graphical sheet music editor; it is a
typesetter. You prepare a text file mymusic.ly in which you formally
describe your music in the grammar of `mudela' (music definition
language). You then feed this file to lilypond ('lilypond mymusic.ly') to
typeset it, after which you can convert the result to your favorite
printing format (postscript for instance).

There is pretty much documentation, for instance on www.lilypond.org (I
guess you got your lilypond straight from your SuSE 7.0 CDs, not from the
web).
