I think there is a serious issue here. Animating graphics quickly and
simply is a very useful thing to do in education. On the Acorn platform
programs such as Tween and Mogul showed the way (I used them to animate
some graphics for Johnny Ball Reveals all for Central TV). What is the
free software equivalent of flash? Education web sites that need
animated diagrams and illustrations need something to do it. StarImpress
is not a good tool for this for the same reason as Powerpoint isn't.
HTML as a basis for web delivered lessons is desirable because its
designed for web page presentation with low bandwidth and we want pupils
at home on 56k dial up to be able to access these resources. If there is
a free replacement for Flash I would really like to know what it is. For
most advertising sites Flash is a pain, its absolutely vital to be able
to animate on web delivered education sites.
