This is typically due to ignorant systems administrators/web programmers. 
Most web banking sites which require this will work fine if you use a user 
agent that lies about its' identity. You can make Mozilla/Firefox and 
Opera do this easily.

So don't buy the hardware. Most modern hardware has good support under 
alternative OS's. I'm scared of Longhorn too, but this topic is far too 
tangential for gnustep-discuss, don't you think?
