No, my application (wrote myself) doesn't do *any* explicit font selection. It just uses the standard "small medium large" abstraction offered by the toolkit. Same application on F9 and F10 rendered *on the same computer* correctly. After upgrade to F11 it wouldn't render properly, and the same behaviour showed up in F12.
Just because you didn't see any bugs before doesn't mean they didn't exist. My theory is things look better if 'xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi' is installed, bad if they are not.
Can you try installing that, and see if it helps? -- Rex
